Seven lesson pages on Canada's depression and its very different political answer to it.
Canada's depression looked much like America's — so why was the political response so different?
The unit runs on one presentation in three parts and one comparison: what caused the collapse in a country whose economy was built on exports, what the "ten lost years" did to the Prairies and the cities, and why Canadians answered with Bennett's relief camps and a crop of new parties — the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation, Social Credit — rather than a New Deal. It closes with students building an infographic comparing the two countries' responses and their short- and long-term effects.
