How Congress represents a state
Congress has two parts, or "chambers." Every state is represented in both, but in different ways.
Every state gets 2, no matter how many people live there. They represent the whole state and serve 6-year terms.
Seats are based on population, counted by the census every 10 years. Each one represents a district and serves a 2-year term.
North Carolina grew enough to gain a 14th House seat after the 2020 census.
